Libraries is the first thing I looked for when moving in the city. I mean, when all else fails, you can always go to the library and grab a book to spend your days right?
When I was in Singapore, I didn’t sign up for any library membership because of the annual fee of $42.8 + registration fee of $10.5 (I didn’t have PR). So when I found out that the membership to national libraries in Auckland is FREE, I was overly happy. Borrowing books is as well, FREE. What’s even better, loan period is at 28 days.
I tried to fill out the registration form here; however, it didn’t work for me. Therefore, on one of the days I went to an appointment, I just dropped by the branch at Lorne Park, and got my membership sorted.
Basically, the staff looked at my passport and my proof of address. Then she asked me to fill in the same form. Strangely, the form worked this time. Thereafter, she gave me a collection of card designs to choose from. Among those that look really hard to be modern, informative and childish… I picked one that’s more cultured with the Maori pattern. The whole registration procedure took no more than 5 minutes, really hassle-free.
On the way back from my appointment, I dropped by the library again and picked 3 books to my liking.
Now, here is to my favourite pastime of all: reading in the blanket!
