Fake accent

I’ve got quite confused sometimes hearing people accusing each other of giving fake accents.

Like someone being overseas (in the particular cases of being to US or UK)  for a while and he/she starts to speak like the natives, he/she is said to be using a fake accent.

I’ve been in Singapore for 9 years and I’m certainly under some influence of how people here in Singapore speak; however, no one says I’m having a fake accent. They say I’m ‘localized’.

If a French speaks English with a Chinese accent (no racism intended here), I’m not sure if this case will be classified as a ‘fake accent’ or a ‘localized’ case.

Quite amused to think about it.
